CONSIDERING NORTH

Shore communities are perched .

on the side of a mountain range
—— terrain ill-suited for soccer
players (let alone soccer fields)
to take root — the number of
skilled soccer players that sprout
up every fall is remarkable.

Earlier this -month,.. Sentinel
Secondary senior boys’ soccer team
built on that tradition as they laid
‘claim to. the B.C.’ Double-A
Championships in, Williams Lake.

What makes the victory even
sweeter for the Spartans is the fact
they finished behind Sutherland in
the final North Shore league stand-
ings but. managed to defeat the
Sabres 3-1 in the North Shore dou--
ble-A playoffs.

Fellowing the B.C. . final,
Sentinel’s Chung-Ming fp was
selected as. the. Provincial
Tournament outstanding phiyer. The
skilled midfielder scored [1 goals

during the Spanian's five tournament

eames. In addition to Ip, Sentinel’s
Dave Boehmer and Fin Page were
named as Tournament All-Stars.
Sentinel’s win’ marks the first
time a North Shore senior: boys’

team has. won a provincial soccer”

title since Argyle won the B.C.
crown in 1988. . _

_ But the North Shore’s success on
the provincial stage may not be over
just yet, as Argyle “Green” begins

‘play today in the B.C. Triple-A
~ Championships in. Vancouver, The

Pipers, ‘coached by Vinee Alvano

and Mike Yee. cre one of 16 teams ~~

to contest the title.
