Edwardian builder home

THIS FINE Edwardian Home is
located on the corner of Jones
Avenue and [Sth Street and is in
close proximity to Mahon Park.

It is also on the bus route and
‘one of.my readers travels by it
often and was wondering if 1 would
get around to sketching it.

Many times | have noticed this

large home on the corner with the
jaunty weathervane on top, but |
waited for the time of year when
the leaves had fallen so more of the
house is visible.

The large, mature deciduous tree
is so much a part of the view as you
travel down Jones Avenue that |
decided to draw it from this angle.

Also of note is the mature holly

‘hedge across the front of the prop-

erty.

The Peers House gets its name
from its first owner, Ross Peers, a
lumberman in the carly days of
North Vancouver, Neither the

architect nor builder are known
because the 1910 records book is
missing.

The date of construction is esti-
mated to be circa 1910.

The most notable features of this
tall Edwardian builder home
include the wrap-around verandah,
with turned Doric columns, the pro-
jecting bay windows to the north
side, the original front door, and the
pyrantid bellcast hipped roof.
