Invariably, a student who wishes to enroll in any of these supplementary programs takes a diagnostic test to determine where he or she should begin. “We go back and pinpoint the causes of a student's problems and that is the big difference between us and traditional tutoring, which tends to focus on preparing the student for tomorrow’s test in school,”’ says Loon. Loon observes that. many stu- dents who finish high school do not attain the proficiency in basic math to handle math at higher levels. The debate over whether or not the school system provides the re- quired education will continue. However, the number of stu- - dents attending supplementary programs is expected to increase.
