The gifted guitarist and his fellow players, brought together in Nanaimo four years ago, are set to debut with a major label interna- tional release May 1992 with Capi- tol Records. For blues fans who haven't heard 22-year-old Gogo play be- fore, check him out this Friday at the Commodore. An independent live recording of Gogo and the Persuaders (sax player Pierre Komen, bass player Todd Sacerty, drummer Damian Graham) playing the Commercial Hotel in Nanaimo reveals a quick and expressive guitarist indebted to the likes of blues guitar heroes Albert Collins, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jinimy Hendrix. Gogo: “A Fender Stratocaster. | think it’s the most versatile, With some Gibson guitars you can get a really good sound, but it’s only one sound. | just like the way it’s shaped, the curves..." For the re- cord, Gogo favors tube amps. He recently acquired a re-issued Mar shall unit called a blues breakers combo, a vintage re-issue of equipment used by Eric Clapton. With it he uses a vintage Fender tube reverb unit. Music Now: Do you use enhancers or effects to change the sounds you get from your guitar? Gogo: “‘Lately | got a lot of stuff from this guy Roger Mayer.
