NEWS BRIEFS Can-Dive sues to recover pipeline project costs NORTH VANCOUVER undersea company Can-Dive Services Ltd. has gone te court in a bid to collect $6.7 miltion it claims it is owed for work Can-Dive did on the Vancouver [stand Gas Pipeline Project. The company filed a writ in B.C. Supreme Court on May 1 claiming the money from Pacific Coast Energy Corp., WestCoast Energy Inc., Intec Engineering Inc. and Morrison-Knudsen Co. Inc. The local company claims the money is owed to it for work corried out on the pipeline project that was extra to its contract. Can-Dive also re-registered a builder’s tien against the property on which the pipeline crossing enters and exits Georgia Strait, as well as a corridor along the sea floor between the mainland, Texada Island and Vancouver Island. Theft charges result from Park Royal South incident THREE RICHMOND men face theft charges after the West Vsncouver Police arrested three shoplifting suspects at Park Royal South just before 2 p.m. on May 8. Approximately $500 in merchandise was recovered by the police. Charged with theft under $1,000 are Michacl Pardeep Jarman, 18; Ricky Harpreet Jaspal, 23; Edmund Mark Siqueira, 22. Mien charged with fraud after credit card seized TWO VANCOUVER men face charges of fraud, posses- sion of stolen property and public mischief following ar- resis made by the West Vancouver Police on Aprit 24 at Woodward's Park Royal. According to a police spokesman, security personnel at the store called police when a credit card transaction raised suspicions. The owner of a credit card had reported it lost. But he allegediy gave it to a friend, who subsequently per- sonated the owner and spent $1,300 with the card. Facing the charges are Chung Keung Lee, 26, and Jian Chang Li, 22. Firefighters wash cars for Children’s Hospital WEST VANCOUVER firefighters will be applying water to vehicles instead of to burning buildings tomorrow, at the third annual car wash for Children’s Hospital. Last year the event raised $2,500 for the hospital. The car wash takes place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 13th Street and Bellevue Avenue. Drivers can make donations to the cause. Approximately 25 firefighters will be on hand. Extra sailings scheduled for long weekend traffic June 28, when the full summer schedule begins.
