LGH hosts
conference

ACTRESS AND singer Ann Mor-
tifee will be featured tonight dur-
ing the opening session of the 10th
annual palliative care conference
hosted by Lions Gate Hospital.

Mortifee will perform songs
from her latest album, Serenade at
the Doorway, which explores the
issues of dying and the therapeutic
aspect of music.

The theme of the three-day
conference will focus on the
choices palliative care patients
(those who are terminally ill) face
in terms of the types of care
available to them, both medical
and non-medical. The more than
30 workshops offered at the con-
ferences have been divided into
three streams — medical care,
home and hospital care, and
psychosocial and spiritual care.

Keynote speakers include Dr.
G.W. Hanks of the Royal
Marsden Hospital in London,
England and Margo McCaffery, «
consultant in the nursing care of
people with pain.
