All three modes in the system — SeaBus, bus and CkyTrain -- have recorded increases in the past six months, but SkyTrain cidership has shown the highest increase. SkyTrain ridership rocketed 31 per cent in the first two quarters of this fiscal year —- from April to September — compared to the same period last year. More than 17 million passenger boardings were recorded be- tween April and September this year. “There’s no doubt that SkyTrain is a popular means of transportation, as is indicated by ridership figures that continue to exceed expecta- tiuns,”” said Mayor Don Lanskail, chairman of the Vancouver Regional Transit Commission. “Some of the increase is felt to be due to people’s growing reccgni- tion of the harm that the single occupant motor vehicle is causing the environment. Many of these people are choosing to switch to transit,” said Lanskail. “Two thirds of all pollutants in the Lower Mainland come from passenger cars. * LIFE TIME RESIDENT OF THE NORTH SHORE * MARRIED, 24 YEARS * 30 Years of Volunteer Service * 7 Years on the North Vancouver Recreation Commission representing: Field Users: Rugby, Football, Soccer, Basebail etc. Ice Users: Hockey, Curling, Ringette, Skating, etc. Aquatics Users: Swim Clubs, Divers, etc. * 7 Year Board Member North Shore Neighbourhood House * Committee Member - Needs of Disabled, Cultural, Expo, Participaction Committees. Readers like rubber bands THE LAST EcoUpdate contained a plea fromm Ms. Grant of North Vancouver — did anvone know how she could get rid of her vast subber band collection? A number of readers called to take them off her hands, and a swap was arranged. Allan Galajda of Dale Matthews and Associates had the following advice for peo- ple in a similar quandary: He advises either taking elastic bards to a post office, which could use it for bundling mail and wrapping periodicals, or taking them to architectural design firms or architectural print shops, both of whom send out a [ot of rolled blueprints.
