smoothly, but according to Ross
Bentley, everyone has room for
improvement.

“No one thinks about it much,
but’ everyone can drive more
smoothly than they do now. Driv-
ing smoothly not only makes it
more comfortable for the passen-
gers, but it saves wear and tear on
the brakes, clutch, engine,
transmission and other moving
parts. I always recommend that
people squeeze the brake and gas
pedals ... don’t jump on it.””

Part of driving smoothly is an-
ticipating traffic conditions and
hazards. If you look far enough
ahead and leave two seconds be-
tween your car and the car ahead
of you, there’s no need to jump
on the brakes at the last minute or
swerve suddenly to avoid an ob-
ject.

A gentle touch and some com-
mon sense can really make a dif-
ference to your vehicle’s life ex-
pectancy.
