after by nannies. They at-
tend day care or pre-school.
The choice is as diverse as
the need. And like all ser-
vices, child care facilities
range from excellent to
mediocre to poor.

No matter what your child
care choice, there are several
things you need to be aware
of.

Visit the facility you have
in mind. Are the children
busy and happy? Study
space, equipment and activi-
ties. Watch the way the
children respond to each
other and the adults present.
Is the ratio of adults to
children reasonable? Don't
be afraid to ask questions
and drop in anytime.

Shop around for price.
You don't have to pay an
extravagent amount for
quality child care but nor
should you necessarily pick
the least expensive.
Remember, location, cost of
space, equipment and
maintenance all determine
the price you pay.

Avoid a= facility which
does not permit visiting. You
are entrusting them with
your most precious posses-
sion and you should feel free
to check on your child
anytime.

Look for a facility with a
reasonable amount of space,
a variety of equipment and a
planned program. The adults
should have some training,
especially in a registered day
