VANCOUVER (UPC) - The
B.C. Law Society. has gone
after rebel lawyers Donald
Jabour and Jack James for

advertising: their fee
structures, a society
spokesman said Thursday.

Deputy secretary Dennis
Olmstead said the two
lawyers ‘will be called to
formal hearings as soon as
possible. They face penalties
ranging from a reprimand to
disbarment.

challenged the society's rules
regarding advertising earlier

over the society in April.

changed its rules to allow
lawyers to advertise their

services for a fixed price and
has alsa listed his fees in
newspaper ads.

school trustees

Ccouver’s 17 schools: Each

school is allowed four non-
teaching days a year for in-
service training and other
school functions.

When trustee Mark Sager
noted, “Every single day
requested by the teachers
falls on oa Friday or a
Monday," superintendent Ed
Carlin was quick to point out
to the meeting: “That's for
the convenience of parents.”

He claimed: “More than
half the teachers would
prefer to have no non-

instructional days.”

“Teachers don't see it as a
free ride,” said Carlin.
“Trustees should pick a day
at random = and=e arrive
unannounced at a school to
see what happens.”

Trustee Norman Alban
had a different idea. “Just
tell the principal you're
coming,” he said, "Then it
doesn't matter if you show
up or not.”
