Tel’s new Phone Mart at
Capilano Mall, you find.
yourself a little incredulous.
As a consumer, used to
dealing with the seemingly
endless red tape of daily
living, it take a few minutes
to get used to the idea that
you can walk in, sit down,
and leave ten minutes later
carrying you're new tele-
phone in a shopping bag.

‘‘During the visit to the
store,’’ says District Mana-
ger Brian Bagley, ‘‘the
customer is able to arrange
for a service connection, and
make a substantial saving in
installation costs. This is
because customers who take
advantage of the new system
pay a lower connection fee
since a visit by a telephone
installer isn’t necessary.’’

But there’s also another.
aspect. After you’ve browsed
through the wide selection of
models and colours’ on
display at the Phone Mart,
and have settled on a new
phone, you sit down with a
representative. Here instinct
tells you that you’ll spend
half an hour filling out forms,
and then be told to come
back in three weeks when
your phone is ready. Instead,
the girl asks you a few
questions, you sign a rental
agreement, and she then
informs you that you can pick
up your new telephone in
about ten minutes.

‘Phone Mart speeds up
service,’’ added Bagley, ‘‘by
eliminating the. need: for an
installer to gain access to the
home. The Phone Mart
system is available to all
residential customers, inclu-
ding those with homes not
already pre-wired. Crews
