the three-day tournament at
the Burnaby-based university
campus, making the event
one of the largest high schooi
wrestling competitions in the
country.

Novice (Graad¢ 7-8)
wrestlers hit the mats vester-
day; Grades 9 through 12
compete today; and— on
Saturday, the “elite” level
wrestlers strut) their stuff,
beginning at 9 a.m.

Snowboard FIS World
Cup competition.

With the recent cancella-
tion of the Mont. St. Anne
World Cup, this weekend’s
competition is the only North
American stop on the 15-
venue Snowboard World Cup
tour this season,

Giving the Whistler com-
petition even more consider-
able weight is the fact that the
snowboarders are all compet-
ing for the coveted few spots
on their country’s Olympic
team.

For the first time ever,
bovh giant slalom and half-
pipe will be medal events ar
the 1998 Winter Olympics in
Nagano, Japan. Athletes from
20 countries will take part in
this weekend’s competition.
