The options available are: gripset and deadbolt, latchset and deadbolt, or mortise lock gripset. For front doors, the most popular choice is the gripset and deadbolt combination. A gripset is basically a handle with a with a thumb latch that is depressed to open the strike latch, with a deadbolt installed above the gripset handle to lock the door. The Jatchser is cither a round knob or a lever that you turn to open, with a deadbolt installed above. The latchset can also be keyed to provide extra security. The gripset, latchset and the deadbolt each have their own latch, as compared to a mortise lock, which has the deadbolt and the strike latch combined in a cassette, which is mortised into the door edge. The inside handle can be a round knob or lever. Side doors or back doors usually have a passage set and a deadbolt or a keyed latchset and a deadbolt. All exterior doors must have a deadbolt installed — a keyed latchset works well: when combine with one but is inadequate on its own.
