Resolutions for the road

iF YOU happen to need a few
easy-to-live-up-to New Year’s
resolutions, here are some ‘“‘for
the road’’, with our compliments.

1. Resolve to pay attention
to your driving.

Staying out of trouble in traffic
is a full-time job. Heavy traffic is
unforgiving to those who let their
attention wander to other matters
while their vehicles are hurtling
along at dozens of meters per se-
. cond.

2. Resolve to approach in-
tersections with care.

Ease up on the gas as you ap-
proach an intersection... even if
the light is green or if you have
the right-of-way.

3. Resolve to buckle up, all
the time, every time. -

People who wouldn’t dream of
leaving their homes unlocked dur-
ing a quick trip to the store think
it’s OK to ignore their safety
belts. Yet the risk of a crash is
greater than that of being robbed.

If your VCR 1s worth protec-
ting, so is your head.

4, Resolve to expect the
unexpected.

You can’t count on the other
guy to signal or even look before
changing lanes. You can’t guaran-
tee that someone won't try to beat
