clinch top spots

NORTH VANCOUVER lawn
bowlers swept first and second
places in prestigious B.C. Master
singles competition.

Twelve top B.C. singles players
qualified for the two-day event
hosted by North Vancouver Lawn
Bowling Club.

After eight hours of bowling in
sweltering heat, North Van-
couver’s David Brown, 54,
defeated clubmate Peter Fish, 43,
three sets ro one in a best of five
set final. Brown picked up $600
first prize and Fish received $350
for second.

In addition to bowling out of
the same club, Brown and Fish
are members of the 14 man Ca-
nadian Lawn Bowling team.

The other North Shore qualifier
for the Masters was 1989 B.C.
Junior Champion, Mark Ray-
mond, 26, who finished sixth in
qualifying rounds.

This was the first me Ray-
mond had faced top Canadian
bowlers in singles competition.

Despite his sixth-place finish.
Raymond was pleased with his
performance in view of the depth
of the other competitors.

All three North Shore bowlers
are on a fours team feaving for
Regina this weekend where they
will be representing B.C. al the
Canadian Lawn Bowling finals.

The North Shore team is rated
number one and is expected 10 be
in medal contention agains’ cighi

They have just returned from other provinces for the finals,
an eight day National Training held Aug. 19 10 Aug. 23.
