Newsstand Price 25¢ * Cops declare war on booze By CHRIS LLOYD Gangs of drunken louts who roam through West Van- couver looking for fights and causing mayhem every summer have had war declared on them by the local police force. Officers were out in force last weekend checking for liquor infractions and by Sunday night their tally of confiscated booze totalled an unprecedented 4,150 bottles of beer, 17 bottles of wine and 12 bottles of liquor. The police acknowledge that even that total is just a fraction of the amount of booze being swigged in public on beaches and in parks and that the problem is probably worse now than it's ever been. But deputy police chief Bob Brolly promises that it's going to get better as he says the police are prepared to do whatever it takes to get to grips with the problem. He says he's had enough of drunken louts terromzing people on beaches and parks.
