On hand to receive the proclamation from Mayor Baker were Lois Graham-Cumming and John Richmond, Co- chairpersons of Anmes- ty International’s Group in North Vancouver. The local event is part of the world-wide human rights Organization’s annual Prisoners of Conscience Week. Amnesty I[nterna- tional members observe the week on behalf of people in prison for the non-violent ex- pression of their opinions or the peaceful practice of their religion, or for their color, sex, ethnic origin or language. This year, Prisoners of Conscience Week is devoted to men and women who have been punished by _ their governments for promoting human rights.
