Wright wrong on productivity Dear Editor: Whether Education Minister Vander Zaim’s pian to revise the secondary school curriculum is right or wrong educationally, no single person should have Reconsider mini-pumper OPEN LETTER TO MAYOR MARILYN BAKER I learned today of the NV District’s decision to do such power im an area so large and so important as the provincial public school system. No radical changes should be made _ without adequate consultation with those involved and time for proper implementation. The stress that the school system has been put under in the past year as a result of repeated budget cuts has been bad enough without the Minister's ordering radical changes two days after this year's budgets were due in Victoria. If Mr. Vander Zalm’s intent is to destroy public confidence in our public schools and in the democratic process, he is likely to succeed. Tough luck for our children, unless enough people insist on his dismissal and this province returns to- rational educational] planning. Kathenine Steig, West Vancouver Price on human life “away with the rescte and safety unit in order to save $300,000 per year. This decision implies to me that lives saved are not worth $300,000. How dare our elected representatives put a price tag on hfe! As a District resident, I urge the council to use my tax dollars to keep the unit and crew operational — and, please note that I will not notice should you decide to curtail instead other non- essential services. I trust that each time a life is lost because of your having sold off the unit and disbanded its crew, we will collectively be guilty of non- assistance to a person in danger. I believe you will want to reconsider this unfortunate decision France Powell North Vancouver Keep Canada Beautiful nil 24 years parts warranty on all video recorders Dear Editor: And so it seems the North Vancouver District council has managed to fix a price on human hfe. Three hundred thousand dollars to be exact. The cost, coincidentally to run the Mini-pumper truck of the North Vancouver District Fire Department. You don't really believe that we should stop working hard. Or stop trying to work smarter. Do you? Canada’s already in a deep enough hole. Now if you could persuade the rest of the world to stop working so hard, maybe I'd go along with you. - But if we have to compete wi with Japan and Germany and Korea and Taiwan and someday China and India (not to mention the United States), aren't we going to have to keep running to stay ahead?
