Locals honored with

life-saving

SIX NORTH Shore residents were honored by Roval
Life Saving Society Canada (RLSSC) in a ceremony
Saturday night.

Honorary RLSSC_ associate certificates, which
recognize long-standing contributions and service to
the society, were awarded to Margaret Dunster,
Isabelle Hill and Jim Tarlton, all of North Vancouver,
and Dorothy Morel, her daughter Mary and Muriel
Waanzel, all of West Vancouver.

Dunster joined the society in 1938 and won the Na-
tional Lunch Cup during the 1939-1940 season. She
has served the RLSSC faithfully ever since.

Hill has been with the RLSSC since 1939 and has
served on the society’s girls’ inhalator crew and
became an RLSSC executive member in 1942.

From 1947 to 1955, Tarlton served as a lifeguard at
Kitsilano Beach after graduating from the RLSSC’s
life-saving program.

West Vancouver award winners Dorothy and Mary
Morel and Muriel Wanzel have all made valuable
contributions to the society.

Dorothy Morel became secrctary-treasurer of the
RLSSC's B.C. and Yukon branch in 1975 and pro-
vided much financial guidance. She was awarded the
Queen's Silver Jubilee Medal by the Secretary of State
in 1977,

Mary Morel joined the RLSSC board of directors in
1968 and has served as finance chairman, secretary-
treasurer and executive secretary.

Wanzel, who has been with the society since 1938,
was an active RLSSC executive for six years and
helped organize displays for the life saving
demonstration team.

She also took part in life saving and synchronized
swimming demonstrations.

The RLSSC awards ceremonies were held in Van-
couver’s Ramada Renaissance Hotel.
