Griffiths-Slind, who calls
herself a “furniture broker,”
is the owner of Theoreme
Consulting — a home-based
business which caters for
people who often don’r have
the to trawl around fur-
niture shops.

Originally from
Switzerland, Griffiths-Slind
spent many years as an
investment consultant before
starting her company in
1995 “as a fluke thing.”

“Tr fell in my fap by acci-
dent,” she remembers.

“My brother was looking
for furniture and so T asked a
supplier who ['d given stock
advice to.

Then someone else want-
ed to know abour furniture,

and it just grew by word of

mouth.”

Although she has no cata-
logue, and never advertises,
Griffiths-Slind’s reputation
has grown to the point
where she’s “swamped with
work.”

She assembles her stock
from a base of 50 well-

researched local suppliers,
catering to what she calls the
“high-end” market.

“{ don’t escourage peo-
ple to buv something chings
that fall apart and = are
cheap,” she says.

“I try to always buy from
Canadian, and especiatly
B.C. suppliers,” she savs.

Gritfiths-Slind describes
her collection as mostly
“upscale country.” She deals
mostly in pine furniture (“I
do hardware more than soft-
ware,” she — deadpans,
“though I will arrange bed-
ding as well if people ask.”)

In many cases, she will
oversee the entire outfitting
of a property, .

She cites one instance
where she was told to spend
$20,000 on a four bedroom

reme

home in Whistler.

“I did everything down to
the skeets and the beds,” she
savs.

Customers who — use
Griffiths-Slind’s services for
their mountain hideaways
have been so impressed,
thev’ve asked her to kit out
their Vancouver homes as
well,

Griffiths-Slind says her
consulting services “appeal
to professional people who
don’t have time to go shop-
ping.

“They don't have to run
around every weekend to
fine something,

They might want 2 ‘red
sofa but can only find a green
one. ~
