Beauty crown almost fit

SIGRID Otto may not
have captured the covet-
ed Miss Canada
Internationa! crown,
but she’s pleased as
punch to have garnered
one of the competition’s
four subsidiary titles.

The 28-year-old life-long
West Vancouver resident
returned from Toronto fast
week clutching her trophy and
cherishing memories she'll
never forget. Otto was recog:
nized as the Miss Canada
International fitness champion

Orto attended Sentinel
Secondary school in’ West
Vancouver for Grades cight
and nine and then transterred
to Brentwood College, a co-ed
boarding school on Vancouver
Island. She received a bachelor
of arts degree from UBC
which she followed up with a

two-year marketing diploma
trom BCIT. Since then Orto
has worked with Wood Gundy
as a financial assistant.

The Miss Canada
International pageant received
national attention a couple of
vears ago when then-crown
halder Danielle House was
stripped of her title after she
was charged with belting her
ex-bovtriend’s new love inter-
est. That attention, albeit neg-
ative, is what led to Orro
attending two vears later.

“If it hadn’t been tor the
incident, it wouldn't have been
in the paper and I wouldn’t
have heard about it,” said
Oro, fucling the argument
that there’s no such thing as
bad publicity.
