year ald is one of 20 players
to be selected to the squad
from a field of 47 during the
recent B.C. Best Ever
Program provincial camp in
Osoyoos, The all-star team
will represent the province at
the Western International
Under-17 Challenge Cup in
Saskatchewan in late
December.

“T am excited abour being
selected to Team BC and
especially about going to
Swift Current at Christmas
time to compete in what will
be a great tournament,” said
Kariya, the youngest brother
of NHL superstar Paul. “It is
an honor,” he added.

Last Monday night, with
the Burrards in’ town for the
sixth of their best-oftseven
game semi-final battle, nothing
came casily to either team,

But in the end, the Indians
prevailed 7-6, With the victory,
the Indians take the series four
games to two and advance to
the finals against the Victoria
Shamrocks.

It took more than 10 min-

utes of scoreless lacrosse before
the Indians broke out and
opened the scoring on a “Todd
Katanehik breakaway, Ry the
halfivay mark of the second
period, the home squad
seemed to be well on their way
ro closing, out the series, but
unnecessary penaltics caught
up with the Indians and the
teams finished the second peri-
od tied at five.

Kleven minutes into the
third, the Burrard broke
then for a goal to take their
first lead of the game. It was
short-lived though as the
Indians tied the game 17 sec-

onds later, Chris George potted
the eventual winner three mine
utes after the Burrards’ tally.
