By Martin Millerchip Contributing Writer Coun. Erie Crist had pro- posed a public meeting in order to accommodate extend- ed presentations from the RCMP and groups opposed to photo-radar. Crist told council March 18 that the issue was highly con- troversial and sensitive since West Vancouver had already decided not to allow the use of the new radar. But Coun. Pem Goldsmith- Jones successfully called for a staff report on the use of photo- radar for council considera- tion. Goldsmith-Jones said she was “not aware of the province having said very much to the municipalities about this.” Director of engineering ser- vices John Bremner confirmed that no discussions had taken place with the province regard- ing local municipal choice on the use of photo-radar. ’ Goldsmith-Jones. said she was looking for hard informa- tion from the province and ICBC rather than opinions from the public.
