Workshops offer tips for hair

IF MARILYN Monroe were alive
today, she’d be amazed at the ease
with which Madonna cepies her
look.

Kinder, gentler hair colors and
perms; dryers, rollers, spritz,
mousses, pomades and gels have
revolutionized hair care — and
made those _ blast-from-the-past

of us just ‘don’t know how to use
the new gels and high-tech
gadgets, only hairdressers do. But
you can learn, with professional
help, at Strands Seminars, held
throughcut the year.

Urs Eichenberger, owner and
chief: stylist at Strands Hair and
Skin Treatment Centre, had the
idea for the seminars when clients
kept asking him exactly how he
scrunched, how much mousse,
and precisely where to hoid the

blow dryer — to get the same ef-
fect he did. :

‘“These are hands-on
workshops,’’ says Eichenberger,
“with minimum. theory, and lots
of practice.””

Strands is the same salon that
first introduced Vancouver to the
state-of-the-art Computer imag-
ing system. Still going strong,
Computer Imaging makes it
possible for clients to try out dif-
ferent hair or make-up styles on a
computer video screen before they
actually take the plunge.

Seminars are held in the even-
ings, at Strands Salon in Gastown,
131 Water St., from approximate-
ly 6:30to9p.m. —

Topics include ‘‘gadget relief’’
— getting the look you want with

what you have; a = skin care
workshop; “the three faces of
you” -—- different ways to wear
your hair; basic make-up; and
“let’s party’’ —- learn to look
sexy, sophisticated, or just spien-
didly different when you go out.

Each workshop is $65, and
there's a $25 discount if you pre-
register for three. .

Light refreshments will be serv-
ed and each person will receive a
free gift. Attendance is limited to
six to eight persons, to ensure in-
dividualized attention. If these
times and dates are not conve-
nient, Strands will arrange
customized programs on six weeks*
