Community-building weekend workshop FOLLOWERS OF the work of Dr. Scott: Peck will be interested to hear of a three-day weekend workshop happening on the North Shore May 18 to 20. Peck, a psychiatrist, is the bestseHing author of inspirational and psychological books such as The Road Less Travelled and The Different Drum. The Road Less Travelled has sold over four tmil- lion copies to date and recently passed The Joy of Sea as the best-selling work of non-fiction. Peck anc his wife, Lily, along with 10 other people, founded the Foundation for Community En- couragement, a non-profit organization for promoting com- munity and world understanding. The goal of the foundation is “to make hope real again — to make the vision of true communi- ty actually manifest in a world which has almost forgotten the glory of what it meuns to be human.”* tt teaches individuals, groups and organizations ta communi- cate, deal with difficult issues and overcome their differences in order to form communities. North Vancouver's Keith Barker and two friends attended a foun- dation workshop last) year and were so impressed by it that they have organized a similar com- munity-building workshop for the North Shore. Two facilitators from the Foundation for Community En- couragement will help participants to experience acceptance and in- clusion, transcend differences in beliefs and backgrounds, safely experience authentic communion and reach a deep mutual respect. The process learned in’ the workshop can be applied to an individual’s dealing in the fami- ly, workplace and the world as a whole. The workshop wilt be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 18 to 20 at recCentre Delbrook. The cost of $295 includes luncli each day and snacks.
