Brochure offers information about AIDS

THE NATIONAL AIDS informa-
tion campaign developed by the
Canadian Public Health Associa-
tion (CPHA) in callaboration with
Health and Welfare Canada has
announced a new brochure for the
general public. Called The New
Facts of Life, the brochure offers
basic information about AIDS.
“We've designed the brochure
to be simple, yet complete insofar
as it's possible in a  20-page
booklet,’’ said CPHA AiDS

courages Canadians to get involved
and protect themselves and the
community in limiting the spread

Constructed in an easy-to-read
question and answer format, the
brochure addresses a wide range of
AIDS-related topics, including:
What is AIDS? How serious is
HIV infection. How do you
become infected? What does not
cause infection? How can I be sure
fam not infected? What is the
outlook for the future?

The brochure replaces ‘‘AIDS in
Canada: What You Should
Know," last published in 1986 by
Health and Welfare Canada.

The national AIDS education
program, developed by the Cana-
dian Public Health Association
and funded by Health and Welfare
Canada, has four main directions:
a computer-based clearing house
and information resource centre; a

serics of regional conferences for
health care professionals and the
general public; development of in-
formation materials for target au-
diences such as youth and health
care workers; and a national media
campaign.
