Dear Editor:

You are to be congratulated for the thoughtful
News Viewpoint, Sunday, Jan. 18, regarding the An-
core proposal.

In a few concise paragraphs you have outlined the
issue of future growth in West Vancouver in a most
cogent fashion.

Indeed, West Vancouver's future is bleak — if we
continue to allow the ‘anti everything’’ addicts to in-
fluence land use policies for the community.

As you state, the community plan is not engraved in
stone — it was intended to offer flexibility and en-
courage innovation. {t is hypocritical to imply that we
will ‘‘accept our fair share of growth’’ and then insist

One only has to visit our empty classrooms or va-
cant playgrounds to understand the result of negative
policies.

We continue to play the numbers game when we
should be addressing the more important issues of
scale and affordability — and living up to our re-
sponsibility to the region.

Piease continue to write and report as you have on
the Ancore proposal — if projects such as this are re-
jected, the answer to your headline question is ob-
vious!

nal notice of the public hearing
showed an area approximately one
tenth the actual size.

The community plan is six years
old, not 16. A review has been
commissioned but has not been

’ completed. Staff advised council to

defer consideration of upzoning
until the review has been com-
pleted.

No, ratepayer group has sug-
gested ‘no growth” in West. Van-
couver. It is obviously impossible
with huge areas zoned and
available for development.

One of the main reasons given
for upzoning zone 2 to 2.5 units to
the acre is to get clustered housing
instead of single family. May I
-point out that all the area to the
east is already zoned 2.5 and the
developers have not provided
clustered housing. '

Hundreds of people signed cards
and sent them to council regarding
the proposal to upzone. The
numbers were not read into the
public hearing. Therefore, if peo-
ple want their views known, it is
-important that they attend the
reconvened public hearing on
Monday, Feb. 2 at 8 p.m. at West
Vancouver Secondary School
Theatre, 1750 Mathers Avenue.
