Coordinator RoseMary Slaney, of North Vancouver School District 44, said she expects be- tween 70 and 100 students this year will be needing extra assistance provided by tutors. She said last year about 70 vol- unteers donated 6,500 hours to the program. Volunteers are expected to take part in six half-day training ses- sions, and be willing to give one hour of their time twice a week to the program during school hours. “It’s a wonderful community commitment where everyone wins,’’ said Slaney. POSITIVE EFFORT “The volunteers feel positive because they’re doing something worthwhile, the schools are sup- portive because there is never enough money to provide some- thing like this (from the budget) and the parents are pleased that their children are getting the extra attention.’’ Slaney said the program is not offered in North Vancouver high schools, because the different SAVE 50% PLUS HIGH FASHION AT A LOW PRICE.
