To meet the needs of Allied forces, two North Shore ship- yards, Burrarel Drydock and North Van Ship Repairs, (both bordering Lonsdale Avenue) were called upon to produce over 70% GF Canada’s Second World War fleet. Youngsters, women and seniors were recruited as laborers to meet the demands of dramatically increased shipyard production. The community rallied in support of the war effort, orpa- nizing war bond drives, recy- cling programs and security groups.
