a movie about a

ripped quiz show
hack in the “50s would be
one of the best movies of the
year. Under Robert Redford’s
skillful direction and with a
literate, witty script, the
results are more like an
engrossing mystery than a his-
tory lesson.

The crime: Twenty One, an
NBC quiz shaw, gave the answers
to thie contestants prior to show-
line, even turning them into
actors with coaching for maxi-
mum dramatic impact. And the
blue-eyed blondes always did bet-
ler, Hmm, | wonder why.

But Herbie Stempel dobn

radio” blows the whistle when he
takes a dive an an easy question,
