Collins does it his way Dear Editor: ‘ i grin to myself, accusionally, reading the many letters sent to your desk with references to the writings of Doug Collins. + Many of these correspondents write to tell you, and us, of their support of Mr. Collins’ viewpoints on a huge variety of affairs in our troubled world. Others pour vitriol into the mix- ing-pots of their angry comments, often * ‘advising local editors —~ and readers? — to rid themselves of this troublesome columnist, some- times causing great wonder about their own state of mind, in. “such * matters, ° They seem to forget that Doug Collins has every right to express ‘what he warts to say to his readers, in the same way as you permit his . teading public to agree, or protest, ‘their feelings about his very partic- ular way of reporting events, or of ' recording his opinion of any actions taken: by-certain groups of people. | etal? : As a fellow-scribe (and, ‘as someone once referred to, bya well-known editor, as “a rabid Canadian nationalist"), I would defend to the death, your decision "to keep publishing Mr. Collins. : “oy AN-ofsus can only grow in’: Stature, as’ Canadians, when we. ‘|, refuse to muzzle any free expres-; --sion of opinion. ,. Certainly, sometimes, we feel! “ hurt to-read.an opinion that offends” . ‘our own ‘sensitivities. Often, [find myself in total and complete agreement with almost every theust of his argument, These are usually the very items that pre- cede hundreds of protest letters to his editors, causing me a great deal of unrest. Let me tell you why. | have often been amazed to find that the majority of people with whom | have had conversations op such subject matters, have expressed the same opinion as that put forward by Doug Collins. So what are we? A bunch of mealy-mouthed hypocrites? Have we all become too scared to speak the truths of our time? Don't we care, anymore, about what it takes to keep our country on the right track, in its search for a democratic rightness? No, I am not a racist. No, | do not hate Jews: — as any who were present with me in the area of the Belsen-Bergen concentration camp around April 13, 1945, will verify. But the evidences of a grossly mismanaged immigration policy, during times of great economic stress, reward the criminal elements - «With punishments to fit their heinous crimes, and, as a result of such negligence, further endanger the lives of our police officers, and of ourselves. Any perusal of genuine lists of ownership will clearly show how many of our news outlets, and other media and cultural-defining ele- ments, aré owned by people of the Jewish faith —- Hollywood being but one glaring example of such mind-bending intent. To me, and to ethers who were in Germany at the end of the Second World War, it matters not whether the figure of Jews destroyed by Nazi mandate was six . million or 60,000. Whatever the number, the happening was a dire - atrocity against the face of all humanity.
