up to 20 green, leafy bracts on top
of the stem. It flowers late,

Tigridia bears the dubious distinc-

beauty more than makes up for
their brief lifespan.

mer bulb garden are the lilies.
Once planted, they can remain in
place for years and years and are
particularly at home in the peren-
nial border. Midcentury hybrids,
also called Asiatic lilies, are the
