Tomahawk restaurant founder dies

THE NORTH Shore lost a highly respected pioneer
businessman and one of its genuinely original characters

Tuesday with the death

Chamberlain.

He was 85.

Mr. Chamberlain founded the
original Tomahawk Barbecue in
1926 at Marine Drive and Philip
Avenue. It was the Vancouver
area’s first drive-in restaurant, and
its combination of good food and

Mr. Chamberlain maintained a
special relationship with the North
Shore’s native population
throughout his life, and was made
an honorary chief of the Squamish
Band in 1971.

Mr. Chamberlain, whose motto
was ‘Keep Smiling’, was also nam-
ed businessman of the century for
his contribution to the North
Shore community and the North
Shore Indians.

A private funeral service was
held Friday for Mr. Chamberlain.

In lieu of flowers, donations will
be gratefully accepted to the
Shriners Hospital for Crippled
Children.
