of North Vancouver have been
awarded a financial aid award
from the Alexander Graham Bell
Association for the Deaf for the
1987-1988 academic year.

The Alexander Graham Bell
Association for the Deaf is a non-
profit organization that promotes
the use of speech, speechreading,
and hearing aids for deaf people (a
concept known ds oralism).

Its. members include teachers,
speech pathologists, audiologists,
and other professionals in the field
of hearing impairment, as well as
deaf adults and parents of deaf
children,

Stephan is the son of Keith and
Felicity Hudson. - Stephan is in
Grade 8 -at St. Thomas Aquinas
School. Stephan has won a citizen-
ship award and his outside inter-
ests include soccer, baseball and
youth camps.

Fifty-eight awards were given to |
motivated. and talented deaf stu-
dents in the annual competition
sponsored by the Alexander
Graham Bell Association for the
Deaf this year. The scholarship
program recognizes and awards
outstanding oral deaf students.

Students receiving financial aid
from the association use speech,
residual hearing and/or
speechreading as their main form
of communication.

WV seniers
raise funds
for doors

WEST VANCOUVER Seniors Ac-
tivity Centre is planning to initiate
an open door policy,
The centre has undertaken a ’
fund-raising pragram to_ install ing

automatic doors on the north and YOUR ULTIMA HW BONUS:

east entrances.

According to the centre, ever “Autumn Fascination”
since its: opening some members
have pointed out the need for
doors that open automatically.
These include people with walkers
or people in wheelchairs as well as
members with arms full of
necessities for classes or for
displays.

In addition, some members are
too frail to be able to manage to
open and hold the doors.

Firm prices have already been
obtained with door costs and in-
stallation running to about
$15,000.

Centre members are now plann-
ing fund-raising events to help pay
for the doors.

Anyone interested in supporting
this project is asked to contact the
West Vancouver Seniors Activity
