By Mid-May last year
3,795 jobs had been found
for students. To date over
6,000 students jobs have
been registered in this year's
Hire-a-Student campaign.

Gardner attributes the
Canada Employment Cen-

tres for Students (CEC-S)
early success to two major
factors - the high calibre of
the student population this
year, and the employer sub-
sidy program Challenge ’85.

“The student population
is generally older than it was
in past years. There are a

higher number of students in
the 20 to 24 age bracket than
in the 15 to 19 year old
bracket.... This means stu-
dents this year have more
life experience and more
skills,” Gardner said.

more educated student enter-

expects Over 8,000 jobs to be
created through this pro-
gram, while last year’s
Summer Canada subsidy
program helped create 6,000
summer jobs.
