Authors to visit Seycove super readers THE SEYCOVE Super- Readers are a group of kids who really know their books: they meet every Monday after school at Seycove District Library to talk about their current favorites, to share new discoveries, and to get first pick of whatever's new in the library. The Super-Readers, in their second year, have discussed titles as different as Brian Doyle’s *‘Up to Low", a rollicking tale of one boy’s summer and a Canadian award-winner, and “Sweet Whispers, Brother Rush"’ by the complex and mystic black American writer Virginia Hamilton. Seycove Librarian Noreen Ballantyne, who leads the sessions, says that she has found the meetings as stimulating and informative as the kids have. In| March, the Super- Readers will have two special visitors (0 wind up their cur- rent session. March 4, the guest will be Ken Roberts, a gifted local librarian and storyteller whose recently published book ‘‘Crazy Ideas"’ is a big hit with mid- dle-graders and fast becom- ing a Canadian kids’ best- seller. The story concerns the misadventures of two children who live in a town where crazy ideas are not only approved of, they are ogligatory for Junior high school graduation. The fun is fast and furious as the kids set up a do-it- yourself demolition business, and the ending is satisfactory for all (except, of course, the villain of the piecy). Ken Roberts will introduce his book to the Super-Readers. The following Monday, March 11, the guest will be Elizabeth Brochmann, a Vancouver teacher of cre- ative writing and critically acclaimed author of “What's the Matter, Girl?’’, a poignant story of a girl's growing up in the forties in tural Vancouver Island. Both of these special Super-Readers meetings are open to the public, and in- terested adults and children over eight are invited: the time is 3:45 to 4:30 p.m cA: KitchenA DISHWASHERS © no pre-rinsing onard-wasle cisposer ofan arying © hedis Own waler Come see the mec KitchenAid “21 Series’ : for yoursoll,..the best we have to offer!
