The RCMP has assigned a_ six-person especially for the job. The patrol, known of- ficially as the Enforcement Unit, has been formed to combat the many problems of public drunkenness and rowdiness which have been steadily on the increase each summer. Recent years have seen pitched battles with police in riot gear under attack by youngsters showernng them with bottles and rocks. A press release’ from North Van RCMP. §states: “Unruly parties, public in- toxication, consumption of liquor in public; excessiye li- quor at special occasions and traffic infractions are but a few offences which have increaed over the past few years.” All of these problems will be the target of the Enforce- party pooper patrol ment Unit, which is planning a syStematic crackdown on offenders. And it’s not just rowdies in streets or parks who will find themselves up against the party pooper patrol. Officers will be conduc- ting bar and cabaret walk- throughs, checking for “proper” identification, overcrowding and drunken patrons, as well as carrying out follow-up investigations for the laying of charges.
