With 62 students expected in 2001-2002, the school has the
luxury of being able to operate as a small, close-knit
Jeaming community that pays close attention to each and
every student.

The academic program is central at Island Pacific School.
Teaching faculty are fully certified and promote an
investigative approach to learning. Grade 9 students must
complete a year-end Masterwork project as. a requirement
of graduation. Classroom instruction is augmented with bi-
weekly excursions to the theatres, art galleries, museums,
and work sites of Vancouver.

The outdoor pursuits and community service programs
provide opportunities for students to develop personally as
welt as intellectually. Students go on three outdoor
expeditions a year (hiking, skiing, and kayaking) and devote
10 hours each semester to Community Service. Fostering a
sense of confidence and personal integrity in pupils is a key
component of the total program.

Grade 6-9 is a crucial period of transition for students. Our
aim is to help young people come through these middle
years with the confidence and ability to take on the
challenges and responsibilities of the years that lie ahead
of them.

Shawnigan’s programmes are designed to give students a
well-rounded education. The average class is 16 students,
and although all classes are university preparatory, we offer
enriched courses and a wide range of Advanced Placement
courses. Every student participates in athletics and fine arts,
and values education also plays an important part in our.
Our staff is dedicated and caring. They enjoy knowing our
students in a variety of roles, as they are not only teachers, ©
but academic advisors, coaches, residential assistants and
