north shore news _____ MAIL Box Raise age of consent now | Dear Editor: * North Vancouver City Council recently voted 4-3 in favor of appealing to the fed- eral government to change the Age of Consent Law for legal sex from 14 to 18. Thumbs up! Finally some- body makes sense. T think it should be a demand, nor an appeal, and 1 think it should be a demand throughout the whole of Canada. Fourreen years old is too young for our children to be making such serious decisions which they may regret in a few years. Canada is considered one of the best countries in the world to come live in, visit or make contact with young teens either in person or through the Internet by ped- erasts and. pimps. Having an age of consent law at 14 is just another way of legally allow- ing the rape of our children in Canada. Young teenagers nrust have protection from any kind of sexual exploitation until they are mature cnough to decide by themselves if they want to have sex with an adi't of any age, not leave an epen, legal road for sexual exploitation. T spent many vears in prison doing time tor arson surrounded by sexual offend- ers and believe me, they do get out and thev de Ic. sok for kias. Jam a child advocate and I work on the Internet and around our community with youth. Thousands of pedophiles and pederasts from all coun- tries meeting in organized areas on the Internet, espe- cially from Canada and the USA. There is NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association) in the U.S.A, and there is the Montreal Ganymede = Collective — in Montreal. These are organiza- tions made up of pedophiles, pederasts and released sexual offenders. Let's start protecting our young future citizens from being sexually exploited over the Invernet end on the sticet just because Canada says legal at 14. Let's start pr - ing our young future citizens from those sexual predators that know all abour how the law works in Canada. The age of consent varies from state to state ins the U.S.A. from J5 through 18 and in other countries it is higher, not lower. In Canada, the law states that the age of consent: for people of non-authority over a person is 14. If one is in a position of authority, then it is 18. Whaz adult does vor have 4 position of authority over a 14-year-old? Alan Walker Founding member CIP ranubisgocip@canada.com Aghast over officer’s comments Dear Editor: Re: Anna Marie D’angelo’s Aug. ton. 16 L also found it incredible that — after the North Shore News article entitled “Bear killed in Lower Lonsdale,” and more particu- larly the comments of conservation officer Cameron Schley reported therein. Schley apparently said that a treed bear - can be safely shoe with a tranquilizer bullet. But animals shot with tranquilizers often incur injuries when they fail (from trces) and they then have to ‘be killed or never survive the effects of the (over) tranquiliza- m Andrew WS. Donald President RCMP had chased and cornered the bear and Schley had fired a loud cracker shell, which left the frightened and bewildered bear no choice but to charge in self-defence — Schley said: “They lose their fear of people.” Is this bad reporting cr lack of common sense?
