appeared in North Vancouver courts recently to face various charges: Man with gun arresied News Reporter dangelo@nsnews.com A Bowen Island man allegedly took a loaded handgun with 19 bullets onto the local ferry and then onto a West Vancouver blue bus on March 25. Matthew James Stride, 28, was charged with pos- sessing a restricted handgun without a registration certifi- cate and possessing a stolen 9 mm handgun. Stride has made one appearance in North Vancouver provincial court in connection with the charges. He is slated for another court appearance on April 15 while fe endeavors to find a lawyer. Stride allegedly stole the gun from his Bowen Island landlord on March 10. According to Bowen Island RCMP Cpl. Paul McLean, an island resident reported that two guns and other items were stolen from his home while the resident was out of the province for a few days. The resident’s missing ‘guns included a .22 gauge target rifle and a 9 mm handgun. Cpl. McLean. said: that 15 days later, on March 25, a citizen reported that a man believed to have a stolen gun -was on the Bowen Island ferry. The man boarded a bus at the ferry terminal. West Vancouver Police officers subsequently stopped an express blue bus on the Trans-Canada Highway and 15th Steet. West Vancouver Police Sgt. Jim Almas said Stride came off the bus and was arrested without incident. Police say a loaded handgun was seized. ironically, the gun's owner, Kenneth Seed, said that he decided to help Suide turn his life around about 18 months ago alter Suide had a run-in with the law. Seed rented a trailer to Stride for more than a year.
