I picked mine up at Village Books, and there’s a small kiosk in the 1200 block, 12th St. where an assortment of material is available. We've tried two restaurants in Fairhaven — one for lunch (the Fairhaven Restaurant) — I think you would call the decor art-deco —— the food is quite good and fairly reasonably priced. The other, Dirty Dan Harris’, is well-recommended by the locals, but we were too early for dinner so settled for a couple of inexpensive drinks. The place is large, deco- rated English pub style and the service is excellent. We had a long chat with the bartender who swore, ‘‘You’ve never tasted prime rib as good as here!’? Unfortunately, I couldn’t talk Brian into an hour’s wait. After hearing about the new ferry terminal, we decided to take a run over to Fairhaven on the Sunday following the surprise Wednesday announcement. I was curious about the local attitude towards this shot-in-the-arm for the economy. We drove into the town center and the streets were all blocked off. Thousands of people were swarming around, bands were playing — Carnival time! I’d ex- pected them to be pleased but wasn’t this taking things a little far? Simply coincidence. We had Complete Alarm Equipment Packages from DISCOUNT ALARM SUPPLY ’ “We show you how... and supply the fools.” 990 Marine Drive North Vancouver 987-4000 TRAVEL moves to Fairhaven timed our visit on the day of the Annual Village Fair and it was in full swing. The on- ly buildings at the docksite are old tin shacks that should have gone long ago.” Since the ferry idea is so new I speculated that rumors must be flying as to new development in the area. “Only about 100,000 — not bad for four days,”’ was the reply. One prominent rumor concerns the value of two pieces of property, said to have doubled in value in one day. Another concerns the construc- tion of a giant hotel and conven- tion center. Here again, it’s too soan to tell. One thing certain, it wen't do Fairhaven any harm.
