HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS
Spartans splash to victory

SENTINEL SPARTANS won
their third straight North Shore
high school swimming champion-
ship, this time by a margin of 302
to 159 points over second-place
Handsworth Royals, in drowning
the opposition in 10 of the 15 relay
events.

The Spartans won just three of .

the 22 individual events. Two of
them were by Paul Hughs, who
captured the Boys’ A events for
200-metre individual medley (IM)
and 100-metre ‘backstroke.
Catherine Schier took the 100-
metre butterfly for A girls.

Balmoral’s Sabina Thompsou
was the meet’s only other double
winner. She was first in two B
events; 50-metre and 100-metre
freestyle:

For the first time in the 17-year
‘history of the meet, held this year

Handsworth won six individual
events but only two relays. The in-
dividuals were Scott Tasaka in the
-B- 50-metre freestyle, Steve Wort-

Tom Nevin: in B 50-metre
backstroke, Sean Herschmiller in B
50-metre: ‘breaststroke,
