provincial government. has
approved .a $48 million
budget, with 341 million of

that coming from the provin-

‘cial treasury.

The increase in govern-
ment financing over the
1982-83 period is about one
and a half percent while in-
creases in the fees patients

“We're just secing the
budget for the first time this

morning,” O'Dell said. “My.

first reaction is that if wage

that's been introduced, that
we would hope to be able to

continue to provide the pre-
sent level of service,”

O'Dell said the budget
would also allow LGH to go

ahead with its plans for the

September opening of the
20-bed discharge | planning
ward

That facility will provide a
temporary ward for acute-
care patients who are bound
for extended care, long-term
care or intermediate care
facilities, Because of the
sometimes lengthy waiting
lists for admission, those pa-
tients now are stuck in acute
care areas of the hospital.
