NORTH VANCOUVER SCHOOL BOARD Board to seek budget input NORTH VANCOUVER District 44 School Board (NVSB) wants more public input into its budgetary proces By Kevin Gillies Contributing Writer The board recently passed a motion directing its superintendent ef schools and its secretary-tr- easurer to examine the possibility of forming an ongoing, broad- based budget advisory committee to gather ‘‘wider public involve- ment and input’ into its budget. The board will also took into the feasibility of drawing up a simplified budget formula to parallel the required budget for- mula. The move is an effort on the board’s part to help the public understand the process more and to get them more involved. Board chairman Don Bell said the initiative could prevent situa- tions in which key role players in the education field are arguing about what the facts are. “There’s all kinds of frustration out there,’’ he said. “YT hear it through phone calls, letters and meeting people at public functions. “We need to try something,” he said. However, he added that the board would ultimately retain re- sponsibility. “I'm not suggesting that we ab- rogate, in any way, our responsi- bility as elected officials.”' Superintendent Dr. Robin Brayne and secretary-treasurer Len Berg will report their recom- mendations to the board at a later meeting.
