On the opposite end, that statement became, Hillside Highwaymen coach, Wayne Desjardins’ nightmare as his team lost its first ever match to West Vancoypver in five meetings this year. “We certainly didn't come up with a very good effort.” said Desjardins. “The girls didn't seem to be up for the entire tour. nament.” Desjardins said as he tried to explain away his teams | other loss to Alpha. But while, Desjardin The ’ moaned, Highlander coach. Doris Weseman was cc- static. “It's about time,” she said. “This tame everybody played well, they played excellent volleyball.” : West Van lost the opening round to Alpha, but then proceeded to upset Hillside and then Knocked off New Westminster to capture first place. The 16 teams are divided into four pools for an initial round robin. The top two teams in cach pool advance to championship round. West Vancouver has drawn the pool with Mount Douglas in it, which caused Weseman to speculate, “if they have a rotten day and we have a great day, we might possibly beat them”. Desjardins, despite his teams defeat in the D's is a little more optimisuc. “I hope to be in the top half of the tournament, that's my realistic goal, but I'd love to be in’ the” medals,” Desjardins said. Desjardins predicted that the tournament would be a close one, do to the fact that “there are sO many un. predictable teams” “The team which gets hot in this tournament will be the winner,” he said The championship match will be played Saturday mght at 8:30 p.m. e insurance Claims ¢ Compiete Repaints CURLING AC- TION TOOK over at the North Shore Winter Club last week with the 26th Totem Bonspiel and $12,000 in prize money.
