Al3-Sunday News, Jane 8, 1980 community roundup FULL FOLKFEST PROGRAM One of the Lower Mainiand’s most demcn- strative bursts of patriotism is Canada Week celebrations on the North Shore. Highlight is the “Tribute to Canadian Unity” parade, sponsored by the North Vancouver Lions Club, Saturday, June 28. The parade wil] start at 10 a.m. at Victoria Park and proceed north on Lonsdale, finishing at the North Vancouver Recreation Centre. Small fry are invited to compete for prizes in the Best-Decorated Bike Contest at Victoria Park, starting at9 a.m. A pancake breakfast will be served at 14th and Lonsdale at 8 a.m. Trophies and awards will be presented for the best floats, bands, majorettes, marching units, comic entries and antique cars, according to Lions Club spokesman Claude Goyer. Parade entry forms may be obtained by telephoning 980-3370 or 985-5063. The giant parade will climax a week of activities on the North Shore under the banner of Folkfest ‘80, sponsored by the North Van- couver Chamber of Com- merce. . Foikfest features arts and craft shows and such widely- diversified events as an adult tricycle race, Indian Band fashion show, pet contest, Hawaiian luau, children's paint-in and a family fun-run. Canadian unity will be served through entertain- ment provided by ethnic cultural groups representing the native Indian, Japanese, Portuguese, Scottish, Sicilian, Serbian, French- Squamish - Canadian, Polish and Philip- pine communities.
