Tour heritage district THIS MODEST home, on East Braemar Road in the District of North Vancouver, is one of the earliest homes built in the area. NORTH SHORE HERITAGE By Dorothy Foster It has a distinctive character about it, and although it has been added to several times, these additions have only enhanced its charm, as has the way it has been painted. It was originally built for Irene Ross. Although it doesn’t lie within the boundaries of the North Lonsdale Historic District, it is included in the heritage inventory for the district, and is worthy of a walk-by or a drive past to enjoy it in its lovely treed and landscaped setting. This can be done while taking a self-directed tour of the Upper Lonsdale Historic District. First, park your car near the corner of Osborne Road and Lonsdale Avenue. You'll find yourself at Carisbrooke Park. Right on the comer by the park is a noticeable white sign. This sign includes a map of important heritage homes in the area and gives a back- ground history plus an illustrated segment or portion of these homes. Roy Pallant, North Vancouver historian, worked on the histories, while Anthony Field, graphic design- er, and Ken Pool, illustrator, were responsible for the layout and art- work for this informative sign. It was sponsored by the North Shore Real Estate Board (Sussex Realty), and was unveiled about three years ago by Mayor Murray Dykeman. It is easy to follow the map and to locate these homes.
