Aave Winefield, who is manag- er of Barkbor in the Lonsdale Quay, confirms that color is bright and bold this summer and peints to the shop's huge earrings which feature cascading discs in tropical shots of pink, orange and yellow. She states that the wide bangle, necklace and earring sets in graph- ic flower patterns aré very popu- lar. All of these accessories are made from weod in the Philip- pines by the Barkhor label. Wingfield likes to wear her statement-making oversized pear! bangles and earrings from Borkhor. The wide-band bracelet How to select quality clothing WHEN IT comes to selecting clothes, the comment always heard from fashion insiders is that “Canadians don’t care anything about quality.” The popular myth goes that on- ly Europeans carefully check the fabric and how a garment is made while Canadians are only interest- ed in color and style. But if clothing is‘ made well it "will last longer ead bok er, . according to the Italian Trade Commission. Elizabeth Sherrill, who is fash- fon director of the commission, has three rows of big faux pearls, with pearl button earrings to match. ‘She chooses items which are big, but finer looking because she is petite and feels that some ac- cessories are too overpowering. She loves to wear bold color, however, and wears it in earring Styles such as button shapes, which she states are returning for fall, and hoops so that they do not look unbalanced on her smali face. Her accessorizing trademark is shoes which all have matching earrings. The Lonsdale Quay’s Zigzag Boutique manager Kate Rive says that metallics in her store are sell- ing well, Straw sun hats ‘in gold and silver, simple, high-cut mules with flat heel in gold and silver lezsher, and sequin and metallic bridges both worlds. She gets to see and check out ali the Euro- pean fashions and has her roots firmly in North America. She’s put together a list of quality con- trols that you might want to con- sider, the next time you’re shopp- ing for a suit, sportswear coordi- nates or a dress. it might make a big difference in how much enjoyment and use you get from your clothes. - Here are -the tips from the Italian’ Trade - Commission for spotting a quality garment: @ Hems and seams should lic flat and show no signs of puckering. She confirms that the western look is hot and will continue throughout the fail. The store car- ries western-influenced mules and boots. Rive is a shoe lover who spends on shoes more than any other ac- eessory. Her favorites of the mo- ment are western half boots by Guess which. reach just below the ankle and have a western heel, pointed toe and stitching. She wears them throughout the summer with shorts. Julie Campbell manages Below The Belt in Capilano Mali which sells lots of cropped unitards in black cotton and Lycra, as well as a variety of bra tops. One bra style has stitched cups and comes in black, the other is a sport bra style similar to a short cropped tank which is available in black, white, orange and yellow. Campbell wears her little crop- ped tops as fayered looks underneath unbuttoned shirts or see-through chiffon blouses. Her favorite accessory is ihe belt, however. She sports a belt around her waist almost every day, slipped through the belt loops of her jeans and shorts, or over spandex shorts and a mat- ching top. She likes wide, square belts with big buckles, which just fit into belt foops "and are coordinated with her wardrobe colors in white, brown and black. . Crumpets, Park Royal Shopp- ing Centre, manager. Robyan Matsuba says the white . cotton blend shirt in her store would be great for tying at the waist, It’s © got an embroidered crest on the Pocket and a button cover on the top button. Another white blouse with white embroidered asgyle pattern would look feminine for evening if worn uutucked. Crumpets also does well with its earrings and necklace sets with pendants in bright pink and orange metal, and its silver quilted Chanel-styled bags. Matsuba drapes a silky scarf on her head and wraps it around her neck when she is driving, and then adds sunglasses for the oh-so- sophisticated Grace Kelly look. She considers herself short, so sticks to small, compact Chatiel handbags which she has in silver, bright green and red, and smail colorful straw. . —Carol Crenna _ DEVELOP &.PRINT 3x5) 4x6 6.28 .6.76 24 exp. 9.96 10.92 - 36exp. 13.59. - 15.03. 986-2271 ey 119 East Ist St ‘ 12 exp.
