The motion, moved by Ald. Ralph Hall, was introduced after council heard an extraordinary re- quest from entreprenuer John S.Willliams to rush through an amendment so he could make an offer on an industrial site. It is the first time in 17 years council has approved a motion for a text amendment without prior notice. But council did not hesitate to break tradition. “This is a strong step we are taking and we’re showing our biases, but as far as expediency goes...this is appropriate,’’ said Ald. Elko Kroon. Ald. Stella Jo Dean favored the move because she wants private enterprise to be involved in the sport. “If we can get an industry going and get the kids off the street, I’m all for it,’’ she said. : **We’ve included Beaver Lumber in the zone and just recently a film studio so why not a skateboard park?,’’ Dean added.‘‘! would cali this an industry.’’ Williams said he had been look- ing for an appropriate site for an indoor facility for 1% years. He said the current zoning for skateboard parks as commercial development virtually eliminates the feasibility of the concept, because there is very little com- mercial property available and. the cost is prohibitive. s4AKE NO MISTAKE "MR.
