Games on the North Shore. West Vancouver municipal council has defer- red making a decision on whether it will join with the two North Vancouver cuouncils in submitting a bid. West Van aldermen want more time to receive and consider a report on a pro- posal to construct a stadium seen as part of the Games package that has been pro- posed. A report from West Van parks and recreation direc- tor Frank Kurucz says the stadium is needed because the North Shore lacks ade- quate track and field facilities. On top of that, Ald. Gor- don Rowntree says he is un- willing to address the ques- tion of support for the Games until he is fully aware of the financial implications of hosting the event. With the delay to study the stadium proposal in more detail, Kuricz reported to council, it seems unlikely that a North Shore bid for the 1986 Games could be pared in time to meet the Oct. 5, 1983, deadline for application.
